WinYarn
Copyright (c) 1994 by Stanley Wong
Version 0.71 Beta
WinYarn is a Microsoft Windows front-end for the Yarn program by
Chin Huang. Yarn can be found in the SimTel collection on various
mirrors, such as oak.oakland.edu.
The WinYarn distribution is a ZIP file containing the following files:
README.TXT this file
WINYARN.EXE the WinYarn executable
WINYARN.WRI the WinYarn documentation
MAKEINI.EXE create the WinYarn.Ini file
CHANGES.TXT revision history
TODO.TXT wish list and known bugs
TESTERS.TXT notes to WinYarn testers
PACKING.LST list of files in WinYarn distribution
FPTAB10.VBX system file
FPIMPRNT.VBX system file
Complete installation instructions are in the documentation but the
first eight files should be placed in a WinYarn directory that you
create. The last two files should be copied to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory. You also need to create a winyarn.ini file in your Yarn
directory (pointed to by the YARN environment variable), or use the
MakeIni program to assist you. The program also requires VBRUN300.DLL
which most people usually have already (usually located in your
WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory). If you don't have it, it can be located
on CICA and its mirrors, or services such as CompuServe. You can
also try ftp.microsoft.com. Before you replace any existing file,
such as the *.vbx files, make sure that the replacements have a newer
time/date stamp.
This program requires a complete and working installation of the DOS
program Yarn before you attempt to install WinYarn. Yarn is a USENET
news and email reader written by Chin Huang. As of this writing
WinYarn has been tested with version 0.71 through 0.75. As of this
writing there are features in Yarn 0.78 that will be accomodated in
a future revision of WinYarn.
WinYarn is freeware. It is not public-domain software as I retain
the copyright to the program. WinYarn is freely distributable on a
not-for-profit basis as long as the files mentioned above remain
together and unmodified (see the program documentation for complete
details. Offer void where prohibited). An exception to this is if
the program is distributed as part of a large collection. For
example, a CD-ROM of the CICA collection would qualify.
This file applies to version 0.71 of the WinYarn distribution.
I will not support earlier versions (heck, I might not even support
this version! ;-)
